Puneeth has been deeply involved in the policy making process both in India and globally. He has a strong track record in participating in and commenting on policy making at various UN bodies such as the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS), the World Trade Organization, the International Telecommunication Union and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to name a few. In India, he has provided research support to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) and the High-Level Advisory Group to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
He currently works on a range of regulatory matters with a specialization in data governance, emerging technologies, gaming and telecom. With a deep understanding of both the law and the law-making process, Puneeth helps clients navigate a fast-changing regulatory environment across these sectors.
Puneeth regularly advises leading technology companies on a wide range of issues such as data privacy, cybersecurity, content regulation, regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), telecom regulation and gaming laws. In addition to advising on these issues, Puneeth is regularly consulted by stakeholders on the policymaking process on these issues.
Notably, Puneeth was invited to testify before the Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019. He was also one of a select few young professionals from around the world who was chosen as a Young ICT Leader by the ITU in 2015.
Puneeth has also worked on some of the most significant deals in his areas of specialization. He worked on the Carlyle Group’s acquisition of Hexaware, the largest IT/ITeS transaction in India to date. He also led the data protection and telecom regulatory aspects of the Carlyle Group’s investment into Nxtra Data and Macquarie Capital’s investment in Cloud Extel.
