He has conducted trials of complex criminal cases both as counsel for the complainant/assisting Prosecution and counsel for accused. Additionally he has also handled cases under Negotiable Instruments act, Prevention of Money Laundering act, IT Act etc. and has also conducted internal investigations for various clients.
Nishant has also been the face of the Firm in matters involving interacting with officials in the Government and Government relations specifically with the Police, CBI, Interpol, FRRO, SFIO, Civic agencies and various Government Ministries both at State and Central level. Nishant’s extensive criminal law experience also gets an edge from Nishant’s previous transactional experience where he has worked on a number of corporate matters relating to Mergers & Acquisitions, Private equity investments, Real estate transactions etc. He also has reasonable experience on the civil litigation front and he has appeared and continues to appear in numerous Courts & Tribunals in India with regard to matters pertaining to property law disputes, contract law issues, IP disputes, Consumer disputes arbitrations, matters relating to recovery of moneys, injunctions, specific performance etc. in addition to appearing in many High Courts with regard to matters relating to reduction of capital, schemes of arrangements including mergers and de-mergers etc.
In addition to the aforesaid profile at the Firm, Nishant has the unique experience of acting as the Lead Counsel for a US Multinational (Motorola) in 2008-2010 (on secondment from the Firm). During his stint, he has been instrumental at taking care of entire legal operations – inter alia including litigation (which included defending the Directors against criminal liability, arbitrations, labour matters, consumer matters) and corporate-commercial matters (including telecom transactions, government and private tenders etc.) and compliance portfolio.
