Tejas Karia, Rishab Gupta and Kartikey Mahajan spoke at our SAM-inar on the topic “Emergency Arbitration under the SIAC Rules” on 15 March, 2021. They were joined by our guest speakers, Kevin Nash, Deputy Registrar & Centre Director, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and David Lewis QC, Barrister, Twenty Essex. Kartikey moderated the discussions; Kevin touched upon the procedure and experience of SIAC in administering emergency arbitrations. David highlighted the similarities in the rules of various arbitral institutions that provide for emergency arbitration and the standards applicable to obtain urgent interim relief from the emergency arbitrator; Tejas elaborated on the Indian legislative framework in relation to an emergency arbitration and highlighted some important decisions of the Indian courts that deal with it; and Rishab discussed the enforcement of an emergency order under Indian law and its utility vis-à-vis approaching Indian courts for interim relief.
