The firm organised a round table on 20th October, 2020, on “Navigating through Environmental Compliance Challenges in India”. It was moderated by Nawneet Vibhaw, Partner with the Environmental Law Practice of the firm. The speakers featuring in the panel included Mr. Surojit Bose, AVP Sustainability and Climate Change ICP, Coca Cola India; Mr. Shujath Bin Ali, General Counsel and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd.; Dr. Sanjeev Gemawat, Executive Director and Group Company Secretary, Dalmia Bharat Group.
The panel deliberated on various issues including those relating to remediation, zero liquid discharge (ZLD), extended producer responsibility (EPR), challenges relating to delay in project approvals, environmental clearances and the need for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) audits. The panel also reiterated the need for consistency in regulatory and judicial action when it comes to environmental matters in India. The discussion also stressed on an imminent need for a dialogue between the industry and the government for achieving the common objective of preserving the environment as well economic development of the country.
