Knowledge session: Trust structures under service tax and GST scanner

Discussing the nuances of the recent judgement of the Tribunal in the matter of ICICI Econet, the panellists highlighted the risks and challenges that every trust now potentially faces. While the ruling has been given in the Service Tax realm it may have an impact on other laws such as SEBI regulations, income tax laws etc. Some traction is expected on account of this ruling which holds that the doctrine of mutuality is not applicable between the fund and it’s contributors.
