The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 (“DPDP Bill 2023”) has been introduced by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, before the Lok Sabha today. Once the Lok Sabha passes the DPDP Bill 2023, it will be forwarded to the Rajya Sabha for its concurrence. Either of the Houses of the Parliament may introduce amendments to the DPDP Bill 2023 at the time of consideration. In the event the DPDP Bill 2023 is enacted by both Houses in its current form, it will be sent to the President of India for her assent, upon which it will become the ‘Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023’ by publication in the Official Gazette.
